While stark white looks great in modern spaces, often a softer color is desirable for an elegant room. If that is the case for you, choose something with a hint of grey or yellow. I recommend staying away from anything too darkly beige — you will lose the airy open feeling. This color is Barren Plain 2111-60 by Benjamin Moore. Notice the contrasting decor elements: the black stripe on the curtains, purple couch, black frames and dark floors.

We will start with the simplest and most commonly chosen wall colors – light walls. Light walls are common for a reason; they give your space a fresh and clean feel. For small spaces, a light wall color is perfect because it will make the space feel bigger and more open. Additionally, this is the most versatile wall category. Light and bright walls look great in almost any style of home! For a Scandinavian Modern look choose clean white, for an airy crisp room choose a light blue, and for a country cottage choose cream or a hint of yellow. This wall choice truly has a lot of potential.

Note the open feel of the modern living room below. By angling the chaise lounge and locating the coffee table near the couch, there is still room for traversing the space. Not to mention, opening the back door extends the living room to the backyard, where an inviting pool awaits!

For our lighting we are going to invite the some gold lampshades with subtle black patterns to break the monotony and allow the simple black side table hosting the large table lamp to mesh well. Some ornate golden framed art and other neutral shaded frames to be supporting actors to the golden nominee and your purple wall will be the red carpet to a collage of mis-matched pictures.

This next living room might just have the most stunning paint job I’ve ever seen. The Parisian apartment was designed by Ramy Fischler’s firm, RF Studio. They modernized this historical dwelling with an ombre white paint effect that you are sure to be amazed by. [from Paul Graves for AD Magazine via Yatzer]

Whether you’re stumped by a living room layout problem or you’re looking for ways to change up your space, don’t forget the value of strategically placing your furniture. Not to mention, if you’re looking to buy a new piece or two, consider the needs of the room before making that purchase. A little forethought can go a long way in creating a living room that is both stylish and functional. Happy decorating!

The silver platter on your silver accent table topped with tea, scones, biscotti, biscuits and scrumptious chocolate will not taste as good as the overall effect of the purple room as you let the gossipmongers in. They discreetly take in your living room that you have prepared to dare them to defy the wonderful royal ambiance you have created.

Oh to be Royal and have rich, luxurious shades of purple designated just for the special blood that flows through your veins compliments of your ancestry. Enshrouding their shoulders and body with a cape of decadent purple copiousness, the King and Queen hold their heads erect as we curtsy in awe and reverence.

When designing any room, the best place to start is the paint color. It sets the atmosphere for the entire space – light and bright, beautiful and bold, or dark and cozy. You must also keep in mind that you don’t have to stick to just one color; rather you can get as creative as you want! Think about a feature wall, color blocking, or even a gorgeous ombre. I have gathered plenty of inspiration to get you started on your painting journey!
